Playing Softball In A Hurricane

It was a very windy day today, and out in the Columbia Basin Interstate 90 was closed this afternoon into the evening due to blowing dust. The wind made for a very uncomfortable afternoon on the softball diamond as dust was blowing off the infield, and that wind made it feel much colder than the actual air temperature. What was most peculiar was the fact that whenever our team was at bat the wind was blowing in, and when the other team was up the wind blew out. The result was two embarrassing defeats, which both mercifully ended early by the mercy rule. That just gave us a head start on going to our sponsor's establishment, Flamin' Joes, for beer and wings.

The wind will be backing off overnight and tomorrow looks like it will be a nice day. Today's high was 59 degrees, but with the wind chill factor it felt more like -48. Tomorrow will be about the same temperature-wise, but with much lighter winds it will feel much more comfortable. Dry and sunny weather will be with us from Monday through most of the week. Where it looked like it would be getting significantly warmer this week it now looks like that won't be the case. Look for daily high temperatures to be in the 60 to 63 degree range most of the week, which really isn't too bad for October.
