It's Official!

Well...here I am again.  Where have you been?  I honestly don't have a clue.  A couple of hours ago it was Monday and here it is Sunday night again.  Why is it that when you are 6 years old every day seems like a month, and every year a decade, but when you reach the downhill side of 50 you are already going on 80?

Anyway, I have big news tonight.  You are right now reading the thoughts of the "2nd Year basketball Official of the Year."  Okay...I'll take a moment to let you pick yourself off of the floor and return to your seat before I go on.  Yes, you heard it right, I received an award today.  The basketball season is officially winding down, and earlier today the Spokane Basketball Officials, an affiliate of the Washington Officials Association, held their final meeting of this season.  On the agenda was electing new members to the Board of Directors, amending the by-laws of the organization so as to comply with the IRS rules for 501-c3 tax exempt organizations, and to present awards for individuals who were deemed by their peers to be deserving of recognition.  Here is where I fail to understand what actually took place.  For some reason, totally unknown to me, my name was announced as the recipient of the "2nd Year Official of the Year."  It does make some sense in that this is my second year of being an official official, but I have to ask...WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?  There are so many times that I go out there on that basketball floor knowing that I don't have a clue as to what I am doing out here, and the coaches are continually reminding me of that very question!  I mean, what must the other 2nd year guys and gals be going through?  The award came with a certificate suitable for framing...which will probably never happen...and a gift certificate in the amount of $25 at the Sports Authority.  Now for many of you that might mean a new pair of shoes, but with my size feet...size 15...I might be able to get a pair of shoe laces and perhaps a new Fox 40 whistle.  I am truly humbled by the honor, but I still have to ask; WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

Obviously, that was the highlight of the week.  Up until this afternoon things turned out to be a little unsettling, and that is an understatement!  We have some issues that we are going to have to work through at the church and with our pre-school and kindergarten.  I have no doubt that the Lord will carry us through them, and we will grow stronger in the process, but it is not going to be a whole lot of fun dealing with them.  In light of that, I will once again say that I am truly blessed to be doing the work that I am doing for the people that I serve.  They are a loving and caring family that has blessed me immensely.  As we all know though with any family there are going to be some issues, but that will never stop us from loving each other.

I have just one more week of class for the current quarter, and after it's finished I might actually take a day off...or two.  I finally finished the research paper that was due this past Thursday, and sent it in.  If you would like to read it I will be happy to send you a copy!

Tomorrow is President's Day, which means that the church office and the school will be closed.  It also means that I will be in the office pretty much all alone, which bodes well for possibly getting something done.  In the evening I am looking forward to driving over to the neighbor's house...or former neighbors...to get a "Brady fix".  I'll let you know how that works out and hopefully have pictures.
